Migrate TYPO3 site to WordPress

Migrate TYPO3 site to WordPress

You need to migrate the most complex CMS to the most easy CMS? Yes that’s right! That’s TYPO3 to WordPress migration. And you’re doing well 😉

However the database of TYPO3 is very complex too. It doesn’t store all content as a simple field it use different templates built with XML to generate simple page on browsers. Each TYPO3 site has its own XML template which includes sidebars, widgets, title, subtitle, images, banners and other components, that’s like puzzle. So that becomes horrible work to collect this puzzle for each page. “Oh my god!” The TYPO3 guys did anything to not allow you migrate from this CMS 🙂

So what we should do? I googled and found a lot of free plugins and automatic tools, which say “Hey I can do that, download me and I’ll migrate all pages and all data!”. Hmmmm, believe me , that’s impossible. I think there is only one correct and clear way to get TYPO3 Pages and other components on WordPress, that are hands! hands hands!)

However if you do all manually, it’ll take  months. So I tried two SQL Tutorials (found in internet), WordPress Plugins and I even tried online Automatic Tools like X2WP, TransCMS, Go2WP, CMS2CMS, MRobot and all did nothing. I just spent money for nothing. Support was very poor.  They could not do that, because that’s impossible. These Scripts and Tools can’t predict the puzzle structure of each TYPO3 website XML template. They mixed all content and lost 90% of my website content.

Ok, I was confused! Then I tried do that manually, and I faced with other problems. How about:

  • site structure
  • parent-child pages
  • category-post relations,
  • menu navigation,
  • widgets,
  • extensions,
  • multilingual content

ooooooo my gooood!!! That’s impossible to do manually, I was wrong.

Then I found freelancers 🙂 Oh no! I spend 15 days on first “Rashid” and another 20 days for “Semak”. Both guys didn’t do this job. I understood, if you don’t have any experience with TYPO3 you don’t have any chance to do that. These guys were saying: “Yeah I can do that!”, “Yeah I’m the best!”, “I’m TYPO3 Expert!”, “Yeah I’ve already migrated such websites!”. F……k! why are you cheating!!!

And one day I decided to Tweet! tweet tweet…. “Please help me to do TYPO3 to WordPress migration?”, “How can I migrate from TYPO3 to WordPress?”, “how to import TYPO3 database to WordPress?”, there was no any response, but I found this tweet:

Convert TYPO3 to WordPress - gConverter tweetI went to http://gconverter.com/convert-typo3-to-wordpress/ page and read. They do anything they migrate whole TYPO3 to WordPress with all pages, news, other modules, multilingual content to WPML, widgets, sidebars, template, etc… They said you’ll get an identical WordPress site. And I tried!)

The price was very very reasonable. they do the work within 8 days and +6 days a lot of small bug fix and customizations. That was perfect done! Finally I got a WordPresss site!!!

They have proved that they are experts in the CMS conversions. I had very delicate and specific TYPO3 website to convert and they did exactly what I needed. Thank you, gConverter!

P.S. So I understood that, all hard works should be done by specialists, I spent 2-3 months before letting gConverter do this work within two weeks.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

Let me know if you’ve faced with such a migration task and how did you do that?

      • The version doesn’t matter, they convert any TYPO3 version to WordPress.
First they asked me the type of conversion, I mean full, database only or template only. I asked them only database conversion (about 100 pages and 300 news), they did it within 3-4 days. Then I asked for template to WP theme conversion. They did this with retaining of all navigation (menu, sidebar, footer) and content integration. If your TYPO3 is not good and it’s out of date you can ask them to use a new WP Premium Theme. The price is not fixed, it depends on tons of things not only on number of pages. I paid $150 for database and $200 for template conversion. They also have different options of website page redirection..
